I recently purchased jewelry from Rate4Gold Private Limited, which specializes in refurbished gold, mostly through online sales. Initially, I was very skeptical because buying gold this way was new to me. For me, gold is a form of saving — it doesn’t matter if it’s new or old, just that it’s in good condition.
When they showed me images of the jewelry, it looked beautiful and authentic — honestly, it looked like a brand new piece, not at all used. Still, I hesitated when I saw the estimate because the price was surprisingly low: I only had to pay for the gold plus 2% processing fee and 3% GST, which is exactly like showroom pricing. But showrooms usually charge a whopping 20% or more extra on top of that, so this was much more affordable.
Since they deal in refurbished gold, they don’t have as many design options as typical showrooms. Most of their jewelry is plain gold without any stones, because stones can alter the value and price, and their goal is to keep pricing transparent and fair.
To be sure, I personally verified that Rate4Gold is a legitimate business registered under GST. I even asked my sister in Chennai to visit their office. They showed her the hallmark and were very friendly. The key reason I went ahead with the purchase was because of Mr. Mohammad Taufiq, the floor manager — his honesty and transparency gave me a lot of trust.
I didn’t pay anything in advance. Mr. Taufiq arranged for the product to be shipped from the warehouse to Trichy, which is close to my hometown. I traveled to Trichy and personally checked the jewelry, and he accompanied me to verify the purity, even though they provided a purity certificate. Only after completing my KYC did I pay the amount.
They gave me a proper bill with their GST number and the official purity certificate.
Back home, I double-checked the jewelry’s purity. It’s 916 hallmark gold with the correct HUID number (similar to an HSN number), and I verified it through the BIS Hallmark app. The piece is completely authentic and of excellent quality.
